As a young child, I was introduced to carpentry as a gofer ( go for this, go for that) for my father and uncles. I learned general framing and trim carpentry skills while they worked on each other’s houses. At the age of 12, I began making items out of scrap OSB plywood, nails and glue. I built my first piece of furniture for my 14” color TV and my Nintendo NES gaming system. After my service in the United States Marine Corps, I followed my family’s footsteps and became a Union Carpenter. During this time I developed my passion for building things and began woodworking on the side. Over the next two and a half decades, I have made small decorative boxes, cabinets, fireplace mantels, book cases, dog kennels, dining room tables, breakfast tables and many more projects for family, friends and clients (new friends). Every project has taught me new techniques and helped me develop and enhance my woodworking skills. After a conversation with a close friend (MBG)…AM Woods was created.

With all the different styles and species of woods, our possibilities of creating are endless. We strive to make our projects unique and memorable. The types of wood species we use will depend on your style. We use local traditional hardwoods like; Hickory, Walnut, White/Red Oak, Red/Silver Maples, Ash, Birch and Cherry. If you want something even more unconventional, we use exotic hardwoods like; Zebrawood, Cocobolo, Sapele, Spalted Maple, Fiddleback Maple, Birdseye Maple, Quilted Maple, and Purple Heart. Also we use wood reclaimed from old barns and pallets, as well hardwood sheet goods.
